P&O Irish Sea To Recommence Enhanced Troon Service

The only ferry service from Ireland to Troon is set to recommence on 15th March when P&O Irish Sea’s ever-popular fast ferry returns to Larne.

The P&O Express will operate from Larne to Troon with a crossing time of just under 2 hours and will continue to offer customers a record breaking one-hour service from Larne to Cairnryan.

Regular travellers with P&O Irish Sea will notice a number of changes onboard the Express. The seating areas have been refurbished while new flooring has been installed giving the ship a fresh, modern appearance. The Harbour Coffee Company has been extended allowing more people to relax over a wide choice of delicious coffee and pastries and Fables Restaurant has benefited from a number of improvements. The servery has been extended which will allow a more efficient service and the tables and seats have been adapted to allow families to sit together in the restaurant. A wider range of meals for children and adults has been introduced which includes a mix of the traditional favourites and new mouth-watering dishes.

Graham McCullough, General Manager Scottish Services, P&O Irish Sea comments, “We regularly ask customers what they think of our services and what improvements they would like us to make. Over the winter period, we have taken the opportunity to make some adjustments to the overall onboard experience in response to this feedback. We are sure that our customers will appreciate the changes onboard and that they will continue to choose this increasingly popular route.”

The popularity of the Larne-Troon service was confirmed in 2005 when the number of tourist vehicles travelling on the route more than doubled while the number of passengers increased by 80%. Mr McCullough adds: “Our Larne-Troon service, continues to go from strength to strength. Short sea crossings and convenient sailing times have been a key to our successful fast ferry season.

Our crossing times have proven to be unbeatable and our timetable has been designed to ensure maximum choice for our customers. As the only ferry operator offering two routes between Northern Ireland and Scotland and with a total of 22 sailings per day, P&O Irish Sea give customers more choice and flexibility. Customers can travel out via one route and return via another, choosing a fast ferry or a conventional ship and crossing times from as fast as just one hour.”

Complementing the excellent P&O Express on the Larne-Cairnryan route are the twin superferries the European Highlander and European Causeway. With crossing times of 1 hour 45 minutes and operating a year-round service, these conventional vessels match the crossing times of other high-speed vessels sailing between Ireland and Scotland.
