P&O IRISH SEA SUPERMOTO SERIES 2006 LAUNCH

The P&O Irish Sea Supermoto Series 2006 will be bigger and better than ever, with four events being hosted in Northern Ireland by the joint promoting clubs Killinchy & District MCC and Supermoto NI.

The recent Supermoto Des Nations track at Bishopscourt will be the venue for the opening round on Saturday 28th October, where Moria man, Davy McKee will be out to retain his Solo title for yet another season, but he will face stiff competition in the form of Supermoto regular Keith Farmer, along with a challenge from a number of Road Riders, including Michael Pearson, BJ Toal, Scott Kelly and Kieron Egerton. To add further spice to an already exciting field will be the return of the former John Donnelly Trophy winner and Moto Cross star Tommy Merton along with fellow Moto Crossers, Wayne Garrett and Robert Hamilton.

A new development for 2006 is the additional discipline trying out Northern Ireland Supermoto in the form of Speedway with ex speedway star from England, Carl Shields. Entries are in from across the British Isles including a return visit from John Hoy, the man behind the David Tougher success, as well as his two fellow Austrian’s. The fans will be guaranteed spills, thrills and excitement at all four rounds.

Whilst in the Quads, it will be the usual suspects, including Chris Thompson, current quad champion, and a comeback from ex champion Justin Reid. Also taking part will be, possibly the oldest man in the field, England’s traveling quad rider Paddy Thorne.

Round two will be a week later on Saturday 4th November, were the P&O Irish Sea Supermoto Series will be making a welcome return to Aghadowey race track. Before moving back to County Down for round three on Saturday 18th November at Kirkistown. The final round will be held on Saturday 25th November, returning to the scene of the opening event at Bishopscourt were it is hoped to attract the usual strong crowds to watch the Solo and Quad Champions take there crowns for 2006.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Red Bull Honda rider Jonathon Rea, from Larne for attending today’s press conference, despite nursing a knee injury, which he sustained at Mallory Park at the weekend. This will now rule him out of competing at selected rounds of the series and both the clubs involved are disappointed that the fans will be unable to watch this talented young local rider make his Supermoto debut.

Competitors wishing to travel to the P&O Irish Sea Supermoto event will enjoy special competitor rates, on P&O Irish Sea’s Larne-Cairnryan route.

James Esler, Sales, Marketing & Operations Manager, P&O Irish Sea adds:
“P&O Irish Sea has been involved in sponsoring Supermoto for many years and we are delighted to see the series going from strength to strength. We are delighted to bring riders across to Ireland on our Cairnryan to Larne service and I would like to wish all the competitors and event organisers every success with the 2006 series.”

Ends
