P&O Irish Sea Winter Supermoto Series - Round 3


The P&O Irish Sea Winter Supermoto Series resumed on Saturday at Kirkistown. Additional funding from Ards Tourism allowed a number of top English riders to pay a visit and add extra spice to the championship.

Keith Farmer continued to dominate, taking the double win in the Solo A race to continue to lead the Championship. Farmer took the double ahead of Carl Shield and Davy McKee in race one but in race two Shields and McKee switched positions, giving McKee the second overall spot ahead of Shields. English visitor Ricky Higgs was fourth in race one with Farmer’s younger brother David fifth and John McAndrew from Magheramourne sixth. Race two saw McAndrew fourth ahead of English visitors Higgs and Chris Hodgson.

Higgs won the fourth place overall from McAndrew and Alan Morgan. Farmer’s double means that he retains the Championship lead going into the final round next Saturday at Bishopscourt.

Short Circuit riders Kieron McGrory and Brian McCormack shared the wins in Solo B, were McGrory won race one ahead of English visitor Ben Kirkman and Comber short circuit rider Scott Kelly. Whilst in race two it was McCormack from James McClelland and McGrory. Overall Solo B winner on the day was McGrory from McClelland and Kirkman.

Solo C saw Robert Hannan and Jamie Crawford share the spoils, with Hannan taking the victory in race one from William Thompson and Stephen Shortt and Crawford winning race two ahead of Shortt and Thompson.

Switching to four wheels and in the quads, it was Omagh’s Chris Thompson who grabbed the double to maintain pressure at the top of the Championship. Thompson took the double both times ahead of Mark Donnelly and newcomer on Saturday riding Jim Gately’s quad, Gary Monteith. The oldest man in quad racing Paddy Thorne from Kent made a welcome visit to Kirkistown on Saturday finishing 14th in race one and 12th in race two.

Thompson took the overall win ahead of Donnelly with Monteith third, Cathal McCartan fourth, Richard Anderson fifth and Kenny Wells sixth.

The next, and final, round is on Saturday 25th November at Bishopscourt.
