P&O Irish Sea Winter Supermoto Series - Round 2

The second round of the P&O Irish Sea Winter Supermoto Series was held on Saturday at Aghadowey. It was all change at the head of the field when series leader Durham’s Carl Shields hit bad luck, when he and reigning champion Davy McKee from Moira collided early on during race one. McKee made the better restart, but Shields was slow to get away and also suffered a 10 second jump start penalty, but was still able to pull back up to fifth place, whilst Clougher’s Keith Farmer took the win ahead of McKee with Alan Morgan third and Ivan Kerr fourth.

In race two Shields was again plagued with bad luck, having to pull off the grid with a puncture and then failing to finish. This left Farmer taking the double win ahead of McKee and Morgan, again third with Magheramorne’s John McAndrew in fourth and Farmer’s younger brother David in fifth with Omagh’s BJ Toal wrapping up the top six.

The overall winner on the day was Keith Farmer, taking the maximum 50 points to head the title along with McKee on 108 points. Farmer is in pole position with more wins than McKee, McAndrew is currently third with Morgan fourth and Shields dropping from the lead to fifth place.

The Solo B wins were shared by Brian Hetherington from Kieran McGrory and Christopher Strain in race one and Peter O’Neill from Paul Gartland and Robert Hannan in race two. Whilst in Solo C Dutch motocross rider now based in Cookstown, Bart Laman, took the double win from Danny Browne and Mark McGarvey in race two. Stephen Duddy and Derek McLaughlin filled the top three places on the podium behind Laman in race two.

Switching to four wheels and the quads and it was the reigning champion Chris Thompson from Omagh who took the double win ahead of Comber’s Justin Reid in race one with Mark Donnelly finishing third. In race two Donnelly and Reid switched positions, giving Donnelly the second overall on the day, behind Thompson but ahead of Reid. Despite not winning on Saturday Donnelly still has a five point lead at the head of the Quad championship - ahead of Reid with Richard Anderson in third. Thompson is still trailing slightly in fourth, despite winning three out of the four races - but a DNF in the opening race has pulled his tally down somewhat.

The next round in on Saturday 18th November at Kirkistown.
